A Pension, here in Japan, really has nothing to do
with retirement. In fact, it's Japanese English for a type of
vacation property. It's very similar to a B&B, but it serves
both dinner and breakfast, and all guests take turns using the
baths. In our case, here at the Potato House, we have two wonderful,
large and luxurious jet baths for you to enjoy. You can feast
on a five course western meal and fill your belly for your day
of activities with our breakfast. We'll provide you with organic,
home-grown fresh-picked fruits and veggies whenever they're available.
Now that you know what a pension is, you may be wondering
what a permaculture pension is. Permaculture is a design science
to provide all life's needs in a sustainable way. The word was
coined by its founder, Australian Bill Mollison. It comes from
the word Permanent and the words Culture and Agriculture.
Scott A. Meister (future owner of the Potato House)
was certified to design, consult and teach Permaculture by Bill
Mollison himself, and Geoff Lawton in 2005. He has just started
to give the Potato House and its garden a sustainable retrofit,
and plans to be holding weekend seminars soon.

The Potato House is located near Lake Yamanaka, the largest of
five lakes at the base of world famous Mt. Fuji. If you're planning
on climbing Mt. Fuji, and wish to get a good nights sleep and
a good meal at a very reasonable price before you start your
journey, or after you complete it, please feel free to give us
a call.

If climbing 3,000 Meter mountains isn't your cup of tea, you
can always play some tennis on our two courts, enjoy one of the
nearby hot-springs, take some short but quite enjoyable hikes,
do some fishing, boating, bicycling, wake-boarding, skiing or
any one many aqua activities. We're also a convenient stop before
or after visiting either Fuji-Q Highlands, or Fuji-Safari Park.
If you just want to relax, you can enjoy hanging out in our garden
with a favorite beverage or play with our friendly house dog,
Fuji-maru.
If you've been looking for a chance to get out of Tokyo and into
the countryside but have hesitated due to the language barrier...you
can relax. Now's your chance. Please give Scott a call for English
reservations, and rest assured that you will be given friendly
English service.
Sincerely,
Scott and Miki Meister
